I’ve noticed it in multiple comments in this thread so I’ll just post a general ramble here.
I’ve noticed that people who “insist” they only get 4 hours of sleep a night are always eager to volunteer it like it’s something they’re proud of and simultaneously play the “god, I’m just miserable, why are you even asking?” Card when you react negatively to the comment that they volunteered.
4 hours of sleep per night is severe sleep deprivation. You will not be able to function at a school or a job after just a few nights of 4 hour sleeps. Some people can, but we’re getting into like <10% of people who would actually be able to keep it together and like <1% who might be able to last more than one week. So it makes sense to doubt claims of people who “only get 4 hours of sleep” or especially people who claim they pull all-nighters on the regular.
Although, to throw a bone, short sleepers are also well-documented as being unable to assess their own capabilities, as a function of lack of sleep, so there’s some explanation for why this behavior is so consistent.
