A single slop AI meme take about the same power as gaming on a ps5 for 4 minutes.

Truly disgusting amount of power going into slop.

Do you think people would take you seriously if you complained about their 2 hour long gaming session or how they microwaved a burrito for 2 minutes and a half?

I don’t use image gen much, just mockups here and there and the occasional memes. But no one plays only 4 minutes on their ps5. The disconnect is intense. And mind you, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with spending 12 hours gaming on your day off, it’s the constant bitching about AI as if it was the first piece of technology that uses energy.

Of course no one plays for just 4 minutes and no one suggested that. You can generate dozens of images in 4 minutes…which means it’s a much higher use of energy for so little return. We need new solar/wind/nuclear power to power our existing infrastructure…not create a new energy suck that cannot be satiated…for almost no return(talking slop generation)

My point is that the average power usage for generating images is still well below the average gaming session. You’d have to be generating dozens of images everyday to come close.

We need new solar/wind/nuclear power to power our existing infrastructure

You could of stopped there. Both are energy drains and I’d even argue gaming has less of a return. But even if someone is just generating images for fun, it’s still fine, just like gaming is just for fun and doesn’t return anything but it’s still fine.

It’s not up to you to pick and choose which technologies are okay based on what the media is saying, but our grid to adapt and upgrade to clean energy (which should have happened a long time ago).

I find enjoyment and use in it, and I’m using less energy than some guy playing GTA or making popcorn. Tbh, the whole anti AI movement kind of comes off as being mostly about acting like dicks and gatekeeping. If you don’t want to use it, then don’t.

I never said it was up to me. I have my opinion and I’m allowed to have it. You’re allowed to have yours. I’m not in favor of Ai slop and the infrastructure supporting it and you seem to be. That’s it.

Everyone knows your opinion, you guys are just shitting up every thread with a hint of AI at this point. Let people have their fun, don’t join in if you don’t want to but there’s no need for the constant buzzkill.

It’s a fun little meme about everyone’s favorite lemur, pedo and national tragedy. It’s not your personal platform to complain and bitch and moan.

No one has to read or respond to any comment if they don’t want to. I skip many myself that I don’t like.

Truly a disgusting amount of power going into gaming.

(also there are AI image generators that take much less power)

I don’t see gaming needing to fuck hundreds of cities as it gobbles up more compute with data centers and suckung up any new renewable energy for shit slop. Anything gaming is guilty of, Slop is more guilty by orders of magnitude.
