    I was working in Albany at the time. I was reaaaally hoping it wasn’t going to cause…well, the way the world ended up. The terrorists won beyond their wildest dreams.

      I lived in Cleveland at the time. They evacuated Terminal Tower (the tallest skyscraper in Cleveland) in case the terrorists got so fucking far down the target list that they had to attack Cleveland.

      Ironically, the terrorists lost on all their goals. Al-Qaeda wanted to scare the US out of the Middle East, instead they destroyed the US but made them more interventionist than any time since the beginning of the Cold War.

        It’s so weird that terrorism mainly strengthens authoritarian regimes rather than bringing them down. But of course there’s no reason at all to suspect that’s their real goal.
