Anyone wants to comment on the apparently short legs? That’s weird. But at least it’s sugar and not radioactive materials that cure everything.
Vintage fear mongering to mothers to get their children addicted to sugar. Classic marketing.

I can’t believe you have to advertise sugar
it was a different time
Obesity epidemic explained. Weve collectively stopped watusiing.
watusi equals wellness!
How is it too hard to write “We’ve”?
Probably on a phone. I never bother adding the apostrophe, my thumbs are busy enough. Usually autocorrect sorts me out, but im not going back to fix it when it doesnt.
You showed it right there. They’d have to type in an extra apostrophe you dimwit. What an absolutely moronic question to ask when you already have the answer.
Okay I’ve got to turn this into a cocaine ad
Just put nose in front of sugar and youve got it.
Artificial sweeteners kind of taste like burning to me. I don’t know what that means, but I take it as: “do not.”
POV: your child is a hummingbird or Beavis
Beavis? Don’t you mean Cornholio?
Wait what thats Rudolph Nureyev??
Too complicated. Any more than 2 or 3 steps, and it’s a Broadway production.
I don’t consume artificial sweeteners because they make me sick.
You don’t consume artificial sweeteners because they don’t give you Watusi energy.
We are not the same.
fact
Have you tried Xylitol? It’s technically a sugar but it doesn’t whack out your blood sugar level because it’s digested differently. Bonus: it’s good for your teeth, because bacteria in your mouth recognize it chemically as a sugar so they absorb it, but then they can’t process it so they die. I’ve been using it in place of regular sugar for years with no ill effects.
Xylitol can cause diarrhea in some people.
So as long as you’re not one of those people you’re okay.
I’m not, but I hear it’s not fun finding out you are. Then again, when is diarrhea fun?
Thought of one: when an ICE officer gets visine in their drink.
Xylitol was recently in the news for a study that linked it to higher risk of heart attack and stroke, so there’s that.
I tried some xylitol gum some years back that made me feel unwell, although that might have been because of some other ingredients that I’ve since realized I’m sensitive to. But based on my generally-poor reaction to artificial sweeteners, I try to stick with plant-based alternatives, like stevia and monkfruit… or just plain old regular sugar.
Xylitol is a naturally occurring plant-based substance, known as a “sugar alcohol”. Usually it’s extracted from corncobs, but various fruits also contain small amounts, and your body produces tiny amounts.
Monkfruit absolutely obliterates me.
I absolutely hate how this reads. How is “for energy” its own sentence on its own line, reads so poorly
For energy? Perchance.
There I fixed it
it was acceptable in the 60s
All that advertising in mid century western culture was meant to divorce us from the natural world. Careful engineering went into building post wwii American society
conspiracy time! or not…
Well, in fairness, we do need carbs for energy. It’s just that we also need protein and fat for longer-term energy and carbs for shorter-term energy. And we need to match input and output calories. And it’s complicated, but for the most part you don’t need to worry TOO much about it - just make sure you walk and get exercise, which makes up for a whole host of ills.
You can eat zero processed sugar and still get too many carbs in your diet, which is, i think, the important part here. Carbs are not processed sugar, but processed sugar is a carb.
Its correct to say “you should probably eat carbs” but absolutely misguided to say “you NEED to eat sugar; and the children too!”
I agree, just as long as you don’t say “You shouldn’t eat processed sugar at all” - although I would say it’s better to minimize processed sugar unless you need quick energy (i.e. exercise or other manual labour). :)
everything needs balance and too much of anything can be poisonous
Including water, yep :)
I wanna watusi with a gang
watusi is for sissies. true Gs bust batusi!
Long time ago a breakfast bar or something was advertised as “full of food energy”. After some consumer action the company had to male a second commercial saying “by food energy we meant calories!” as if they assumed viewers would translate that in their heads like duh. What they didn’t say was that calories in their case meant sugar.
I had to see the date of the add before I believed that this wasn’t bjork
With AI slop I’d only believe this ad was real if someone unearthed a 1965 magazine or newspaper with the ad in it. On paper. In my hands.
Due to wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey shenanigans, actually this IS Bjork, and now you know why she called her first project The Sugarcubes.
Damn, can’t believe I missed that connection!
This has come strangely full circle.
