I posted this comment on the same meme in a different comm, but it’s worth saying again:

I’m a big proponent of “showing your weird” – I’ve always liked weird people because they don’t appear to be hiding anything, they just have a genuine quality normal people don’t, whereas people who seem “perfect” or “normal” (whatever that means) are often too good to be true, and are fucked up in a way they have to hide.

I’ve had success showing my weird; it weeds out those who would not want me, and that prevents wasted time and energy on something that’d never work.

All this being said, if I were on a date with a person and they started doing this, well, I’d be extremely interested.

She was probably turned off by the fact that they aren’t maps, but rather nautical charts. :(

They drew stories of sailors as accurately as possible. whales, sea lions etc

they also thought the sea had everything that land had so they invented some monsters like sea dogs

they put the monsters where people saw the real animals, where the water was dangerous and where they didn’t want other people to go like their secret fishing spots

where they didn’t want other people to go like their secret fishing spots

If I were a sea monster this is exactly the rumor I’d be spreading. “It’s just an awesome fishing spot! Not my home or anything.”

This thread is completely devoid of map sea monster facts and that’s a travesty

No no no. You need to start by explaining the evolution of mapmaking, before focusing on the monsters.
Non-map people don’t have enough background on maps, so you must provide that first.

They didn’t know what was there so they made pretty art… thats basically the gist of it… so yeah… you got the introduction in a sentence…

Not hating 27 minutes is either to much or or not enough… but in this case not the right person

Maybe not 🧐 enough detail on their typology? Did you discuss their independent emergence in various unrelated mapping traditions?

It must be not discussing their emergence in various distinct mapping traditions.
